What promised to be a great day for football, turned out to be quite a bit of a farce.

Summary:

Italy 3 - Ukraine 0 (that ok, i dont give a shit anyways)

Eng 0 - Portugal 0

England thrown out on penalties. after a disappointing 1st half the second half started with Becks being taken out (replaced by a very talented aaron lennon - a move which shud have been completed much earlier). England continued to struggle and the icing on the portugese cake came when Rooney was sent off for pushing and shoving his Utd clubmate, Cristiano Ronaldo.

After this i dont know how i will continue admiring and supporting Man U. Rooney appears to a immature roughneck, provoked by the slightest of instigation - forget pace, skill and goals - the future of english football seems to be firmly in the hands of immature cretins and tall, gauche 'strikers' who appear to 'gallop' rather than run and rich superstar, cockney accented fools.

And Cristiano ronaldo - when rooney pushed a defender down and almost stamped on his crotch - Ronaldo comes running in to protest to the referee from 100 meters away when there are 5 or 6 portugese already surrounding him. Rooney pushes his Utd teammate away, which earns him his red card.

to top things - Ronaldo scores the winning goal in the penalty shootout while Rooney, the immature cretin that he is, watched from the stands. It will be interesting to see how this incident affects their game at Man Utd together. :)

But frankly, i may get desperate enough to support Arsenal (Thierry bloody Henry scored the winner against Brazil later on in the night)

The game featured 3 players - Zidane, Ronaldo, Ronaldhino - who have held FIFA player of the year 8 times in the last 10 years :) and according to newspaper reports only Zidane appeared to live up to the billing he receives.

The night also featured Figo, who has won the FIFA player of the year in the remaining 2 years :))

So what potentially could have been THE biggest ever night for futbol in a few decades turns out to be such a farce.
